With its carbon black, performance silica and rubber silane product lines, the Advanced Fillers & Pigments Business Unit is one of Degussa’s major strategic business sectors. Our workforce of around 2.800 employees in 30 production locations spread over five continents achieved sales of approximately € 1,038 million in 2005.

Carbon black remains the predominant reinforcing filler for rubber products (particulary tires). It is also widely used in coatings, inks (including jet inks), and plastics. With an annual output of 1.2 million tons, Degussa is the world’s second largest manufacturer of carbon black. In the field of performance silica Degussa is the world market leader, producing 320,000 tons per year.

Performance silica is used extensively in the rubber and tire industry (mainly tires) in conjunction with rubber silanes. Performance silica excels in special applications in such diverse products as toothpastes, pharmaceuticals, battery separators, as matting (flatting) agents, coatings for printing papers (including ink-jet paper) and as a reinforcing additive in the silicone rubber industry.

Continuous development of our products and processes lies at the heart of our research and application philosophy, allowing us to offer our customers tailor-made system solutions – as specialists in surface chemistry and physics – for a wide variety of sectors, including coatings and paints, printing inks, paper, pharmaceuticals, tires, technical rubber goods and plastics.
